Shakespeare's 449th Birthday, Aprl 23rd, 2013

Born April 23rd, 1564, this amazing writer and poet is still famous in 2013.

Our own Ontario Stratford Festival performs Shakespeare's works year round.  See their animations on the Three Musketeers, As You Like It,   Henry the V, Much ADo About Nothing, and The Tempest to get a taste of these great stories; click on the image below

Try Shakespeare for kids through BBC YouTube clips: Hamlet

Also, try this 2 min clip of "Shakespeare" describing his plot of the famous play Romeo and Juliet

Watch a "Brain Pop" info. video on Shakespeare & then take their quiz - I got 9 out of 10 ... how about you?  It's a tough quiz!

Send me links and info related to this amazing writer & poet!  Enjoy, Ms. M.

Shane Koyczan, Canadian Performance Poet - Olympic Level!

Poetry makes me think.  Poetry makes me feel all sorts of emotions.  Poetry tantalizes my senses.  And sometimes poetry stops me - dead in my tracks.

Shane Koyczan, Canadian performance poet, did just that to me the night of the Olympic opening ceremonies, Vancouver.  Sample "We Are More" - a proud Canadian tribute.

Note - Shane also writes a lot of poetry about bullying.  While his content is moving and thought provoking, the language content is for an older audience and not suitable for younger audiences.

    3.  NATIONAL POETRY MONTH - APRIL
A poem suggested from our Parkview WOW table
"DON’T GIVE A MAGNET TO AN ELEPHANT"
Don’t give a magnet to an elephant.
He won’t handle it with care.
He’ll hold it high up in the sky
and pull planes out of the air.
He’ll get it stuck to delivery trucks
    and bicycles and trains.
He’ll cause trouble at construction sites
    by sticking to the cranes.
    He’ll magnetize the city—
every car, bus, van and truck.
Then he’ll sneak home to the jungle
    and leave everybody stuck.
    — Tiffany Stone
from Baaaad Animals. Stone, Tiffany (ORL book 819.126 STO).
