My dad lost his right arm to a hunting accident when he was twenty. When I came into this world, I only knew my dad with one arm and a hook, so that was my normal. But when I grew a little older and started having friends over to play, my family and I realized that my dad's difference, at first, scared my friends!
How could we overcome this challenge and fear of something different? We simply had to talk about it - which wasn't easy for my dad. There were A LOT of questions and, yes, some were silly.
I connected to James Catchpole's lovely story about a boy with one leg, who was different, but didn't want to always stand out as ... different.
